Job Description
Elgin ISD Rationale: The Elgin ISD Clinical Teacher guide provides district program coordinators with the guidelines to hiring, placing, and supporting clinical teachers. The partnership between the Human Capital and Leadership & Professional Development departments, university programs, and clinical teacher candidates will have a positive impact on students and their learning. Clinical teachers are paired with experienced teachers that have demonstrated exemplary instructional practices and classroom management and have grown in their practice through professional development, data analysis and self-reflection. Cooperating teachers are given the opportunity to continue their own professional and personal growth through the district’s Grow Your Own Leadership Model as they lead their clinical teachers. The Elgin Independent School District recognizes that clinical teachers are critical to our students’ future. We are proud to provide our clinical teachers with a paid internship which allows them to remain focused on honing their skills as educators without the financial burden of an unpaid internship. In an effort to remain competitive, we hire our clinical teachers as paraprofessionals at a rate of $105/day. Our clinical teachers also contribute to the Texas Retirement System upon hire. Clinical Teacher Requirements Candidates must be in the final semester of their programs and be willing to commute or relocate to Elgin, TX (or the surrounding area) for the duration of their internship. SBEC fingerprinting must be completed. Candidates must provide the Teaching & Learning and Human Capital Departments with the contact information for the field supervisor of their respective programs. Candidates must agree to work for the district for the entire semester. Application Steps Apply for the Elgin ISD Student Teacher Placement Request. The link is updated each semester and can be found under “Job Opportunities” on the Human Capital webpage. Include at least three professional/school references including your current field supervisor (or like position). Under the prompt:”List any additional information which will help in determining your qualifications for a position.” include the following: Your desired placement Your start and end dates according to your program Submit your application. Placement Guidelines Students will be placed in the area in which they seek certification. Requests for specific campuses will be considered based on cooperating teacher availability. Students should make these requests during the interview process. If no request is made, placement is at the district’s discretion.
