Special Education 18+ Transition Teacher (Part-time)Primary Purpose:To provide students with targeted and meaningful instructional opportunities within the classroom, district, and/or community settings in order to develop competencies and skills in relation to postsecondary goals that will enable the adult student to transition to adult life. Qualifications:Education/Certification:Bachelor’s degree from accredited universityValid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsementsExperience:2 years of experience in Secondary Special Education and/or 18+ program preferred Major Responsibilities and Duties:Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee Meetings to determine a student’s Individual Education Plan.Develop, update, and modify IEPs throughout the school year to reflect students’ progress and goals.Collect and analyze data on student progress of IEP goals and objectives in order to maximize student developmentWork collaboratively with other staff, parents, community members, and/or relevant stakeholders in an effort to determine instructional opportunities and needs, to work towards transition goals.Support partnerships with businesses that promote transition services in order to build employability skills for students.Maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and community members.Establish and maintain regular communication with parents to strengthen parental understanding of the student’s needs and the district’s role in meeting those needs.Participate in staff development/professional development to maintain and build competencies to improve special education services.Plan and supervise duties of instructional assistants assigned to the 18+ programAttend staff meetings as requested.Administer transition assessments to identify areas of need in order to develop transition goals.Develop and facilitate coordinated activities that align with a student’s IEP goals.Initiate contact with local businesses to establish potential employment sites.Disseminate outside agency information to parents and students about Transition Services available.Keep informed of and comply with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies for special education teachers.Provide special transportation to access job training sites and community based instructional opportunities.Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.Perform all other duties as deemed necessary by the Superintendent or designee. Supervisory Responsibilities:Plan and supervise duties of instructional assistants assigned to the 18+ programMental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment. May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint; and assist nonambulatory students. Exposure to biological hazards.
