Job Description

Primary Purpose:

Responsible for District-wide implementation of Career Readiness, Career and Technical Education Development, Workforce Initiatives. Works collaboratively with district departments, campuses, and with business and community stakeholders to support the vision, philosophy, and goals of the District’s College, Career, and Military Readiness plan.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

 

Master’s Degree from an accredited university or college

Valid Texas Principal Certificate

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Working knowledge of federal and state code governing career and technology education advanced academics
  • Ability to manage budget and personnel
  • Ability to coordinate district functions
  • Ability to interpret & implement policy & procedures 
  • Strong communication, public relations, & interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of curriculum development and program design
  • Excellent project management and community-building skills

 

Experience

Three years teaching experience

Five years administrative experience, including work with instructional models and curricular design

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Research effective models, best practices, and supports development of innovative instructional programs, while helping teachers pilot such efforts when appropriate.
  • Provides leadership in the formulation and implementation of career awareness, education, and readiness programs.
  • Collaborates with Director of Counseling, as well as other Central Office leadership to implement K-12 Career Readiness
  • Ensure that student progress is evaluated on a regular, systematic basis, and that findings are used to make programs more effective.
  • Aligns models with District instructional goals to deliver strong student achievement results.
  • Collaborates with instructional and administrative staff, cross-functional teams and all stakeholders to determine implementation needs and requirements.
  • Facilitate planning and application of technologies in career and technology education programs.
  • Obtain and use evaluative findings to gauge program effectiveness.
  • Ensure that curriculum renewal is continuous and responsive to student needs.
  • Provide career exploration and awareness resources and testing materials to all campuses.
  • Serve on state and local committees including Tech-Prep and School-to-Work committees.
  • Establish student admission criteria for each career and technology program.
  • Identify and define local job opportunities for students.
  • Assume responsibility for career and technology education facilities and coordinate needed repairs and maintenance.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication by conducting conferences on vital issues with parents, students, and teachers.
  • Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in the area of career and technology education and advanced academics.
  • Administer the career and technology budget and ensure that programs are cost effective and that funds are managed prudently.
  • Compile budgets, cost estimates, and approve purchase orders based on documented program needs.
  • Prepare, review, and revise job descriptions and evaluate employee performance to ensure effectiveness.
  • Evaluates effectiveness and economic implications of learning models for feasibility and short/long-term cost effectiveness.
  • Designs and delivers professional development training to ensure success with implementation of programs.
  • Manages delivery of programs, addressing issues and challenges that arise.
  • Directs the development and maintenance of records and reports to keep the Superintendent, Board of Trustees, and other executive staff informed of District progress and future plans.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

CTE Central Staff & Support Campus Principals with CTE Teachers
