Primary Purpose:

Manor ISD is seeking a passionate and experienced Literacy Coordinator to lead district-wide efforts to strengthen literacy instruction across all grade levels (PK–12). This individual will play a key role in designing, supporting, and implementing research-based literacy practices, aligned curricula, and professional development that improve reading and writing outcomes for all students. The Literacy Coordinator will work in close collaboration with instructional coaches, campus leaders, and master teachers, to build the capacity of all classroom teachers to ensure consistent, high-quality literacy instruction and intervention.

 

Qualifications/Certifications

  • Education:
    • Master’s degree in Reading/Literacy, Curriculum & Instruction, or related field (required)
    • Texas teaching certification (required); Reading Specialist or ELAR certification (preferred)

  • Experience:
    • At least 5 years of successful literacy instruction experience (elementary and/or secondary)
    • Experience in literacy leadership, coaching, or curriculum development (preferred)
    • Proven ability to improve literacy outcomes for diverse learners

  • Skills & Competencies:
    • Deep understanding of the Science of Reading, literacy frameworks, and evidence-based instructional practices
    • Strong facilitation, coaching, and communication skills
    • Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with educators and leaders at all levels
    • Skilled in using literacy data to drive improvement

Essential Job Functions:

  • Instructional Leadership:
    • Provide leadership in the development and implementation of a cohesive literacy vision aligned to district goals and the Science of Reading.
    • Guide the selection, implementation, and monitoring of high-quality instructional materials and assessments for reading and writing.
    • Ensure literacy instruction is rigorous, culturally relevant, and accessible to all students, including emergent bilinguals and students with learning differences.

  • Professional Development:
    • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate high-impact professional development for teachers, literacy coaches, and campus administrators.  
    • Model effective literacy instruction and co-plan/co-teach with teachers to build instructional capacity.
    • Support development of effective professional learning communities (PLCs) focused on literacy best practices and data-driven instruction.

 

  • Collaboration & Support:
    • Collaborate with instructional coaches and master teachers to deliver professional development districtwide. 
    • Partner with instructional coaches and master teachers to embed literacy strategies across content areas.
    • Collaborate with district departments (e.g., Special Education, Bilingual/ESL, MTSS) to ensure literacy efforts are aligned and inclusive.
    • Support principals and campus teams in implementing school-wide literacy initiatives and monitoring progress.

  • Data-Driven Improvement:
    • Analyze district and campus-level literacy data to identify strengths, gaps, and opportunities for support.
    • Support the design and implementation of literacy assessments and data collection systems that inform instruction.
    • Use data to inform decision-making, guide coaching, and adjust professional learning.
    • Commit to academic excellence for all students

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrator that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.
