Primary Purpose: Oversee the District Alternative Education Program (DAEP), ensuring high standards of instruction and student achievement. Manage the educational, emotional, and behavioral needs of students placed in the DAEP ensuring compliance with state regulations, collaborating with district staff, parents/guardians, and community resources to support student success. Qualifications: Education/Certification: Master’s degree in educational administration Valid Texas principal certificate, required Valid T-TESS appraiser certification, preferred Special Knowledge/Skills: Thorough understanding of and ability to implement Disciplinary Alternative Education Program school regulations and operations Knowledge of Texas requirements for special programs, including Special Education, Section 504, and Emergent Bilingual. Thorough understanding of TEC Chapter 37 discipline requirements and best practices Ability to work effectively with students and manage their behavior Ability to manage budget and personnel based upon data interpretation Ability to effectively present information to faculty, staff, and students Excellent organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills Experience: At least two (2) years teaching experience Two (2) years of campus administrative experience with disciplinary duties required; secondary grade levels preferred Major Responsibilities and Duties: Monitor student progress and behavior, providing necessary interventions and support. Collaborate with staff, parents, and community resources to facilitate student success. Participate in the development and evaluation of disciplinary alternative education programs with a specific focus on district wide special programs to enhance student achievement. Establish and enforce campus rules, expectations, consequences, and operating procedures through collaborative means with other campus personnel in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct resulting in positive behavior and school climate. Ensure that program rules, expectations, consequences, and procedures are clearly communicated to students. Perform the managerial and organizational tasks related to the daily operations of the program. Assist in the supervision of all students and ensure adequate supervision in all classrooms. Conduct student orientation meetings and student transition meetings as required. Conduct parent conferences, faculty meetings and staff meetings, and professional development opportunities as needed. Request the involvement of a counselor, principal, diagnostician, police officer, or other professional as needed. Share information regarding successful behavioral intervention strategies with the students home campus personnel. Exercise strict professional confidentiality. Suggest and implement changes to the program as needed. Provide individual academic assistance to students as needed. Obtain adequate resources for teachers and staff members. Monitor instructional processes to ensure that program activities are related to outcomes and use findings to take corrective actions where necessary. Provide instructional resources and materials needed to accomplish instructional goals. Establish clear expectations for staff performance with regard to instructional strategies, classroom management, and communication with the public. Foster collegiality and team building among staff members. Encourage their active involvement in the decision-making process. Solicit regular input from stakeholders regarding planning, operation, supervision, and evaluation of campus education program. Direct planning activities and implement programs to ensure attainment of campus goals. Conduct conferences about student and school issues with parents, students, and appropriate staff. Develop and administer the campus budget based on documented program needs ensuring that operations are cost effective and funds are managed wisely. Manage use of school facilities to ensure a clean, orderly, and safe campus. Select, train, supervise, and evaluate staff and make recommendations relative to assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal. Approve all personnel assigned to campus. Coach staff and help them identify and develop appropriate professional growth opportunities as well as accomplish improvement goals. Serve as the onsite administrator for the District’s Discipline Alternative Educational Program, and maintain compliance with DAEP state requirements. Remain current on statutory requirements and best practices for student discipline, and make recommendations to the Administration for changes to practice and procedures. Provide or secure training as requested on effective discipline practices including restorative practices and de-escalation, as requested by the Administration. Other Duties Demonstrate awareness of school and community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs using appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement. Comply with district policies, state and federal laws, and regulations affecting schools. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
