Primary Role: The Assistant Principal of College & Career Readiness
The Assistant Principal of College and Career Readiness (CCR) is responsible for ensuring that students are well-prepared for postsecondary education, vocational training, and the workforce. Their role bridges academic achievement with career preparedness by fostering a culture that promotes college access, career exploration, and workforce readiness.
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university
- Texas Principal Certification
- Minimum 3 years teaching experience
- Demonstrated organizational, prioritization, communication, and interpersonal skills required to achieve the goals of the position and meet the diversity of the students, community, district staff and the public at large
Professional Responsibilities and Duties:
- Fosters and leads a culture of high expectations and post graduation planning and participation aligned with the NYOS Graduate Profile.
- Oversees and leads Career & Technology Education (CTE) course planning, school compliance and pathway development.
- Provides training and guidance to instructional staff that is aligned with academic achievement and CCMR competencies and skills.
- Guides and promotes Advance Placement program and college Dual Credit program.
- Serves as college and university liaison, assisting students in the initial application process.
- Promotes college awareness through promotion of scholarships, college fairs, invitations to college representatives, guidance with college applications and required FAFSA applications.
- Guides schoolwide efforts aligned with the Effective Advising Framework for individual student planning.
- Coordinates comprehensive transition activities for students advancing between grade level programs, middle school, high school and graduation.
- Implements campus programs and activities to ensure every student has a 4-year personal graduation plan that is reviewed at least annually and that is aligned with the Texas Foundation Graduation Plan requirements.
- Collaborates with administrators, counselors and teachers to implement MTSS as well as to support student 504 plans and IEPs.
- Guides implementation of accelerated learning programs, including school-year and summer intervention.
- Coordinates meetings aligned with Individual Graduation Committees and Attendance Committees.
- Leads collaborative efforts with administrators to develop a master schedule of instructional course offerings.
- Seeks out and participates in professional development on and off campus to successfully facilitate all students’ academic, career, personal and social development.
- Supervises activities and performance of school counselors, classroom teachers and aligned grant-funded personnel.
- In collaboration with school leaders, analyzes and utilizes data to assist in the development and implementation of the school improvement plan.
- Serves as Test Coordinator for Organize, PSAT, ASVAB, SAT AND TSIA testing.
- Participates in meetings and complies with all assignments, process improvement, and quality improvement initiatives as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
- Implements restorative practices that align to positive behavioral intervention for seniors.
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

- Follow NYOS standard procedures for communication, interaction, and discipline as outlined in the NYOS Staff Handbook
Work Environment: This job operates in a school environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Physical Demands: Physical abilities include but are not limited to being able to communicate information clearly as well as the ability to see objects at a close range and at a distance, in order to establish and maintain safe and effective working relationships with staff and students.
