Job Description

Primary Purpose:

To provide safe and efficient transportation of students to school and extra-curricular events while also providing leadership by communicating and modeling transportation safety and best practices to assigned team

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Valid Texas commercial driver’s license (Class B) with Passenger & School Bus endorsements within 60 workdays of hire

High School Diploma or GEB

Driving record must meet State point requirements and district standard for driving district vehicles

Must pass physical, including drug test

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:




·      Knowledge of the district area and school; professional business communication and interpersonal skills both oral and written

·      Skills in typing, word processing and file maintenance skills and have organizational skills under pressure with the ability to multi-task

 

Experience:     

One year of Bus Operator or equivalent supervisory experience preferred

 

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Ability to keep routes up to date and to help drivers with safe and efficient routing procedures
  • Ability to answer questions and provide student management assistance to route drivers
  • Responsible for the training and review of drivers as well as the evacuation training procedures for students at our schools
  • Assist in dispatch and other areas authorized by the Director of Transportation
  • Dispatch drivers/monitors and buses as needed to ensure routes are completed
  • Respond to radio calls during the operation of transportation services
  • Communicates with school clients and other personnel
  • Maintains records and filing system
  • Operate a school bus when and as directed
  • Assist management with other transportation functions as needed
  • Demonstrates regular and prompt attendance
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Flexibility and availability to drive a route if needed
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities:             

Provide daily operational oversight to bus drivers, monitors, dispatches, routers, field trip coordinators, safety and training coordinators.

 

Equipment Used:

School bus, safety equipment (flares, reflective signs), fire extinguisher and personal computer

Continual sitting, reaching, and repetitive hand and arm motions, work outside and inside; moderate exposure to extreme temperature (hot) and vehicle fumes.  Exposure to dampness and humidity, toxic chemicals, exhaust fumes, gasoline, and diesel fuel. Regularly lift and/or move up to 75 pounds; occasionally required to stand, walk reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision. There are schedule deadlines associated with this position, which may cause significant stress. The employee must also deal with a wide variety of people on various issues. Maintain emotional control under stress. Predictable and regular attendance expected.
