Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) Teacher Lago Vista Elementary is a PK-3rd grade campus, of approx. 525 students on the beautiful North Shore of Lake Travis (20 miles outside of Austin). We are looking for faculty members who strive to inspire and support a safe community of lifelong learners where every individual is valued and respected as part of the team. Qualifications: Texas teacher certification (EC-12); Special Education Major Responsibilities: Collaborate with students, parents, and other staff members to develop IEPs through the ARD Committee process for each student assigned; implement instructional, therapeutic, or skill development program for assigned students and show written evidence of preparation as required; plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned. Participate and lead ARD committee meetings as needed; conduct assessment of student abilities and learning styles, and use results to plan for instructional activities; present subject matter according to guidelines established by IEP. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing; provide and supervise personal care, medical care, and feeding of students as stated in IEP; assume responsibility and participate in extracurricular activities as appropriate. Create a classroom environment conducive to active and successful student learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students; consult with district regarding education, social, medical, and personal needs of students. Implement the Early Childhood Scope and Sequence and modify the material as appropriate for all students in the classroom Maintain student confidentiality and professionalism Establish and maintain effective open communication with students, parents, teachers, educational aides, and administrators; participate in staff professional development activities. Meet timelines as indicated in the ARD paperwork, student IEP and LVISD policies and procedures Perform other duties as assigned Special Knowledge & Skills: Knowledge of all applicable federal, state, and local laws, guidelines and procedures, including special education. Knowledge of curriculum and instruction Knowledge of best practice in EC including current research. Skill in effectively managing a classroom and student behavior. Skill in communicating effectively with others. Skill in differentiation of instruction for various student needs. Skill in working with various forms of equipment including, but not limited to, personal computers, assistive technology, and printers. Skill in working in collaborative team-based environments. Knowledge of the Pre-K guidelines Experience working with developing and preschool age children with special needs Knowledge of low and high assistive technology strategies to enhance language development Knowledge and skill working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorders as well as working with students with a variety of disabilities Competitive Salary: To be determined by breadth of experience and the LVISD Salary Schedule/Compensation Plan Generous Benefits: TRS Active-Care – The District pays $445 a month toward the employee health insurance premiums; vision and dental offered; cafeteria plan available.
