Job Title: Special Education Support Services Assistant

Department: Special Education

Reports To: Special Education Director

Location: Florence ISD

Classification: Non-Exempt / Clerical Support

 

Position Summary:

The Special Education Clerk provides essential clerical and administrative support to the Special Education Department. This role is responsible for scheduling district-wide IEP meetings, managing student records, handling communications, and supporting the daily operations of the department. The ideal candidate will have experience in special education settings and familiarity with systems such as Samegoal and Skyward.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Schedule and coordinate Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) meetings across the district, ensuring compliance with timelines and documentation requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records, including IEPs, evaluations, and service documentation.
  • Answer phone calls and respond to inquiries from staff, families, and service providers in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Provide general clerical support, including data entry, filing, copying, and document preparation.
  • Assist with tracking and monitoring compliance deadlines and reporting requirements.
  • Support communication between campuses, service providers, and district staff.
  • Utilize Samegoal and Skyward systems for documentation, scheduling, and data management.
  • Assist with organizing department meetings, trainings, and events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the Special Education Department.

 

Qualifications:

 

Required:

High school diploma or equivalent

Experience working in a special education or school setting

Strong organizational and communication skills

Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace

 

Preferred:

Previous office or clerical experience

Experience using Samegoal and Skyward systems

Knowledge of special education processes and terminology

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment

Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise
